What Is All-on-4?

All-on-4 is a cutting-edge technique for placing implant-supported dentures. It helps patients with major or total tooth loss regain their ability to chew, speak, and smile, often without the need for bone grafting

In traditional placement methods, it typically takes six to eight titanium dental implants to support a full denture. In the All-on-4 method, only four implants are needed. The two posterior implants are positioned at a 45-degree angle to maximize contact with the existing bone tissue. This allows the implants to provide great stability for the denture, even if the jawbone has experienced some amount of atrophy following tooth loss.

Because All-on-4 uses fewer dental implants, the implant placement procedure is quicker, and recovery tends to be shorter as well. Our dentists can place a temporary denture just one day after placing your All-on-4 dental implants, giving you a near-instant smile transformation.

3 Reasons We Recommend All-on-4 To Patients Who Wear Removable Dentures

Greater Stability

Traditional removable dentures are held in place by natural suction or with the help of denture adhesive, but they can still be prone to slippage. Because All-on-4 implants are anchored in the jawbone, the dentures they support are never at risk of moving around. Additionally, while traditional dentures must be removed each night to let the gums rest, All-on-4 dentures stay securely in your mouth at all times. You'll never have to be without your smile again.

Better Oral Health

Unlike removable dentures, All-on-4 implants and dentures replace teeth from root to crown. This is crucial for your oral health, as your tooth roots provide stimulation to keep your jaw healthy and strong. Without that stimulation, the jawbone will inevitably atrophy, which can lead to issues including an aged appearance, dental shifting, and further tooth loss. Implants are the only treatment that can prevent this atrophy.

More Durable

In most cases, removable dentures should be replaced every five to seven years. Our All-on-4 dentures, however, are made of zirconia, which can last for 15 years or even longer with proper care and regular dental checkups. Though your denture will eventually need to be replaced, your titanium implants can last a lifetime. We'll be here to create a beautiful new restoration for you when the time comes.

We Offer Sedation Dentistry To Ensure Your Total Comfort

Dental implant placement is a surgical procedure, but that doesn't mean it's painful. After your dentist thoroughly numbs the treatment site, you won't feel much of anything at all. However, having worked with thousands of dental implant patients, we completely understand that each patient has unique needs to ensure a comfortable experience. If you deal with dental anxiety, dental sensitivity, difficulty sitting still, or any other issue that may make you hesitant to seek treatment, know that we offer sedation dentistry to all patients.

Dental sedation can induce a state of deep relaxation that helps your implant procedure fly by without pain or worry. We offer oral conscious, nitrous oxide, and IV sedation at each of our offices in the Salt Lake City area. For patients with the most complex needs, we partner with certified anesthesiologists to provide general anesthesia.

No matter which option you choose, your comfort will always be our priority.

Our Dentists Put Patients First "This place is a judgement free zone."

"They took the time to get to know me. And my comfort level with a dental office. They make me feel welcome and cared for. They want me to continue to enjoy foods and beverages I like with still taking care of my teeth. This place is a judgement free zone."

What Will My New Denture Look Like?

Your All-on-4 denture will be made of zirconia, a premier dental material noted for its strength and close resemblance to natural tooth enamel.
Gloved hand holding an implant denture
Zirconia is stronger than porcelain or porcelain fused to metal, two other popular restoration materials. Its strength means that zirconia restorations can be made slightly thinner than others, ensuring your denture won't look bulky in your mouth. Zirconia is also highly translucent, so it reflects light in the same way teeth do. It's likely that others will have a hard time noticing that your beautiful smile is anything but natural!

Visit one of our offices in Bountiful, Layton, Murray, or Lehi for a one-on-one consultation with an experienced implant dentist. They'll examine your mouth, discuss your goals, and inform you of all your treatment options. If you choose All-on-4 implants, we'll begin preparing for the procedure.

Planning Your Surgery

We'll take 3D X-rays of your jaw, oral structures, and any remaining teeth. These detailed images will aid in the planning of a customized surgical guide.

We'll thoroughly numb your mouth with local anesthesia before beginning implant placement. You can also receive sedation for even greater comfort.

Implant Placement

Your dentist will use the surgical guide to locate the optimal implant placement locations along your jaw. They will access the jawbone through the gums and anchor the titanium implants firmly in place.

Temporary Dentures

We can provide a temporary denture the day after your All-on-4 implants are placed. It will provide you with excellent dental function and a complete smile throughout the healing process.

Healing Period

It takes about four to six months for dental implants to fully fuse with the jawbone. Throughout this time, you'll visit us for periodic checkups so we can ensure your healing is going smoothly.

Permanent Dentures

After roughly eight weeks of healing, we'll get started on your brand-new denture. It will be custom-fabricated based on new scans of your mouth. You can receive your permanent zirconia denture four weeks later, giving you a gorgeous, functional smile to enjoy for many years to come.

Additional Treatment Options For Patients With Widespread Tooth Loss

All-on-X Dental Implants

For Even Greater Support

Though the All-on-4 method provides great denture stability for many patients, some require extra support. In these cases, All-on-X can help. All-on-X usually uses one or two additional dental implants that are positioned in the densest areas of the jaw.

This alternative is best for patients with total tooth loss rather than those who still have a few remaining teeth. The All-on-X procedure is virtually identical to the All-on-4 procedure—the only difference is the extra implants. During your consultation, ask your dentist if All-on-X is right for you.

Zygomatic Implants

An Alternative Placement Technique

Zygomatic implants are another option for patients with low jawbone density who are missing their upper teeth. Unlike traditional implants, which are anchored in the jaw, zygomatic implants are anchored in the cheekbones. The cheekbone does not atrophy after tooth loss, making it a safe, stable location to secure upper-arch dental implants.

Similar to All-on-X, the zygomatic technique allows you to skip bone grafting, even if you have significant jaw recession. Zygomatic implant treatment is performed under full anesthesia to ensure your comfort.

Are All-on-4 Implants Covered by Insurance?

Unfortunately, All-on-4 dental implants are not covered by insurance. While your new denture may be eligible for coverage, dental implants themselves are rarely if ever covered. We do accept most forms of dental insurance, and our team will be glad to file a claim on your behalf to seek the maximum coverage possible.

Our goal is to ensure treatment is affordable for each patient who seeks it. This is why we accept a variety of financing options, including CareCredit®, LendingPoint™, and Cherry. Many of the financing companies we work with offer loans with low or zero interest, and payments can be made in manageable monthly installments.

All-on-4 Recovery

After your All-on-4 procedure, your dentist will provide detailed aftercare instructions. Here are a few helpful tips to make the process easier.

Avoid Hard or Crunchy Foods

Stick to soft foods for the first two weeks after your implant surgery. Hard or crunchy foods can disturb the healing treatment site and prolong the recovery process.

Manage Discomfort With Medication

Most patients experience some mild pain, swelling, and tenderness in the first few weeks after implant placement. These symptoms can be managed with over-the-counter medication.

Maintaining Your All-on-4 Dental Implants Protect Your Investment

Proper care ensures longevity and maintains the aesthetic and functional benefits of your implant-supported teeth.
