Monthly Donation Recipient John Wayne Duke
Each month Stubbs Dental donates the proceeds of all new patient exams to a deserving member of our community. August's recipient is John Wayne Duke from Bountiful, Utah.
John went in to see a doctor on May 4th, 2018. John is young and has always been very healthy and has rarely been to a doctor prior to that date. After blood tests received on the 7th, he was told to go straight to the ER and was admitted to the hospital. A subsequent bone marrow biopsy led to, a same day call, to come to the Huntsman Cancer Center and he was told he would begin “aggressive” chemo right away for Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
John received the needed bone marrow transplant on July 17th. His sister, Lori, was blessed to be his donor! Since July 17th, considered day 0, or as the nurses put it “his new birthday”, John had a few bumps in the road but overall he has done great! John was able to go home from his long stay at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. John sees doctors a couple times a week . He has to be very cautious and wear a face mask when out of the house due to his new immue system.
