Monthly Donation Recipient Latinos In Action
Each month Stubbs Dental donates the proceeds of all new patient exams to a deserving member or organization of our community. September's recipient is the Woods Cross High School Latinos in Action (LIA) chapter.
What is LIA?
"Latinos In Action (LIA) offers an asset-based approach to bridging the graduation and opportunity gap for Latino students, working from within the educational system to create positive change. Our program operates as a year-long elective course taught by a highly-qualified teacher at the middle school, junior high, and high school level. The end goal of everything we do is to empower Latino youth to lead and strengthen their communities through college and career readiness. We accomplish this by focusing on four pillars: leveraging personal and cultural assets, excelling in education, serving the community, and developing leadership skills."
LIA students engage in three core components during class time.
1. College and career readiness curriculum - This curriculum improves students' current academic performamce while preparing them for their future as college students.
2. Leadership development - Each student participates in student lead service, social, and professional committees.
3. Literacy tutoring - LIA students serve as role models, mentors, and tutors for neighboring elementary school students.
Stubbs Dental was able to donate $1,635 dollars to the Woods Cross High School LIA Chapter. If you are interested in learning more about LIA or how to you can donate to your local chapter visit https://latinosinaction.org.
