Monthly Donation Recipient Nikki Smith
Each month Stubbs Dental donates the proceeds of all new patient exams to a deserving member or organization of our community. December's recipient is Nikki Smith.
This year our mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in her left breast. After many different tests and procedures, the doctors determined the cancer was caught very early and she can start treatment before it spreads into other areas. A few weeks after discovering the cancer in her left breast, they found another mass in her right breast that her initial mammogram did not pick up and was discovered through one of her MRI scans. She will now have to go through all the same tests and procedures for the new mass and incur double the expenses.
Her procedures so far have included multiple mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, MRI scans, and genetic testing. Many tests were repeated in order to ensure a correct diagnosis. Coming in the next few weeks, she will be having a partial mastectomy of her left breast and will go through at least five weeks of radiation therapy. Following that, they will continue following up with the left breast and begin making plans for the right breast.
Our mom has been very brave and has had a positive outlook throughout it all but has felt extreme stress financially. She currently works over 50 hours a week to support her family. She is a single mother with four kids: Abby, Alex, Bryanna, and Aiden. Everyone who knows her, knows she is a selfless, loving person who would bend over backwards to make those around her happy.
