Everyone wants a brighter, whiter smile. However, you may not be ready to consult your dentist for professional teeth whitening just yet for one reason or another. If you are looking for an easy at home remedy check out the foods below that can naturally whiten your teeth!

Strawberries

You might think that because they are so red in color that strawberries would actually stain your teeth, but you’d be wrong. They contain malic acid, a natural astringent, that removes surface discoloration on teeth. If you love DIY, you can even make your own whitening toothpaste from mashed strawberries and baking soda. Just make sure to brush your teeth regularly after use.

Pineapple

Now we aren’t saying that your pina colada is going to whiten your teeth but pineapple does contain bromelain. Bromelain is one of the main ingredients in leading tooth whitening pastes.

Oranges

Oranges also contain the enzyme bromelain, a natural stain remover. For a little extra whitening power after you are finished with the orange you can rub the white part of the peel across your teeth.

Basil

Basil is known as a natural antibiotic so it comes as no surprise that it fights bad bacteria and prevents the formation of cavities.

Nuts & Seeds

Due to the naturally abrasive texture of nuts and seeds they are a great way to naturally keep your smile white. The rough texture easily scrubs stains from your teeth.

Onions

The sulfur compounds found in onions prevent plaque from forming on the teeth. However, the sulfur compounds are only effective in raw onions.

Shiitake Mushrooms

These mushrooms contain lentinan. Lentinan is a sugar that actually does not promote tooth decay but instead prevents plaque building bacteria.
